Game 1 Recap:

Canal 10, Capitol Stanton 0

Shane Klapinsky's lead-off bunt single to start the Tournament set the tone as the Canal 10's jumped on Capitol Stanton early and often jumping out to a 6-0 lead after two innings.  Canal 10's coasted from there in route to a 10-0 win in 5 innings.   Cameron Black and Doron Griffin each had doubles to the fence.  Ian Fyfe pitched 3 & 2/3 scoreless innings and helped his own cause with a triple.

Game 2:
Brandywine 6, Canal 5
Tough hard fought back and forth game but Canal 10’s leave too many men on base throughout and fall a run short.

Game 3:
Canal 5, Naamans 3

Inspired by their
6-4-3 double play in the bottom of the 5th, the Canal 10's push two across in the 6th and hold on for an impressive 5-3 victory over the defending district champs.
Justin Bennighoff's sac bunt in the top of the 6th sparked a two run inning that broke a 3-3 tie.  Pitchers Doron Griffin and CJ Moxley shut down Naamans bats after starter Ian Fyfe went 3 strong.

Game 4:
New Castle 6, Canal 5

The 10's were eliminated in frustrating fashion, having the bases loaded and one out and failed to get 6th run across in top of 6th inning.

Canal Blue 14, Newark National Blue 13

Canal came from behind to win their opener of the Brandywine Tournament Thursday night on a walk off single by Danny Sloyer. Canal was lead by Matt Novack who went 4 for 4 and knocked in 5 runs.  In the bottom of the 6th and ahead by 1 run, Newark National  intentionally walked Matt to load the bases.  Liam Watts stepped up to tie the game with a base hit and Danny Sloyer ended the night with his walk off single.  Canal’s offense was clicking and in addition to Matt's night, Liam Watts had a double and single, leadoff hitter Matt Hoffman found his way on base 4 times with 2 walks and two base hits, Matt Azevedo picked up two hits as well as 3 base hits by Coleman McCall. Brenden Fleming also picked up two base hits along with a rally ending double play in the top of the 6t.

Game 2: Canal Blue 30, Capitol 7
Canal Blue picked up their second win of the Brandywine Tournament behind the solid pitching of Matt Novack. The Canal bats were on fire lead by Matt Hoffman’s 6 hit performance.  Several other players joined in with a multi- hit game. Ryan McCormac tallied 3 hits, Matt Azevedo had his 2nd multi hit game as well as Coleman McCall and Liam Watts.  Canal also got some great defense along the way with some solid plays in the field from Ryan McCormac at first base, Joshua Hoops behind the plate along with a nice defensive play at third by Danny Sloyer.  Nate Argo ended the game on a great running catch in left field.

Game 3:  Canal Blue 12, New Castle 1

Canal moved to 3- 0 in the Brandywine Tournament, behind the complete game 10 strike out pitching performance of Coleman McCall.  Coleman also received great support in the field with timely put outs by Josh Hoops in Left field,  Danny Sloyer at third base , Brenden Fleming at second base and Matt Novack at Short Stop. Liam Watts led the way for the offence going 5- 5 and knocking in 5 of Canal 12 runs. Matt Hoffman also added his 2nd inside the park home run of the Tournament. Canal Blue’s next game is Monday night at 8pm.

Game 4:  Canal Blue 19, Midway 5

Canal finish undefeated in pool play with a 19- 5 win over Midway. Lead by the solid starting pitching of Matt Novack.  Canal’s offense once again was powered by Liam Watts who knocked in 4 runs with 3 hits.  Canal also picked up timely RBI base hits by Reece Vanderslice, Nate Argo and Ryan McCormac. Defense was highlight by several great plays at shortstop by Coleman McCall and a great catch in left field by Nick Turley. Canal Blue will move on to the playoff round Thursday night vs. Suburban

Game 5:  Quarter Finals - Canal Blue 11, Suburban 10

Canal Blue moved to 5 – 0 with a quarterfinal win over Suburban. Canal bats picked up right where they left off on Monday night. They jumped out to a quick 4 - 0 lead behind the base hits of Matt Hoffman, Coleman McCall, Liam Watts, Joshua Hoops, and Ryan McCormac.  Suburban battled back to tie the game up at 6 - 6 in the fourth inning. But Canal answered right back in the bottom of the fourth with 5 runs led by a lead off triple from Matt Hoffman followed by base hits from Liam Watts , Nate Argo and Danny Sloyer’s 2 run RBI single to plate 11 runs which is what Canal needed to hold on as they gave up 4 in the 5th to make it 11-10.  Matt Novack came on to retire Suburban’s bats in the 6th    with the help of Matt Azevedo in Right field with a clutch catch and the shortstop and 2nd base combo of Coleman McCall and Brenden Fleming to preserve the win.  Canal also got key contributions on defense by Reece Vanderslice with crucial put out in right field and Nick Turley at 2nd base.

Game 6:  Semi-Final - Canal Blue 5, Namaans 15

Canal Blue’s run at the Brandywine Invitational Title came to end Saturday with a Semi- Final Loss to Namaans.  Canal got off to a great start with a 4- 0 lead after the first inning and added a 5th run in the top of the second. Namaans answered back with 3 in the bottom of the 2nd cutting Canal’s lead to 5 – 3 after two. As Canal bats began to grow silent Namaans began to heat up adding 4 runs in each of the next 3 innings ending Canal Blues run.  Canal Blue Finished 5- 1 for the Tournament, exceeding many expectations. On behalf of my coaching staff I want to thank all the parents for their commitment to the team. Most of all I want to thank the boys for all their hard work, dedication, their trust in team work and desire to fight on each game for nothing more than a desire to keep playing baseball as long as they could.    Go BLUE!! Proud of you!

Game 1: Canal 16, New Castle 0

Canal’s District team jumped out to a fast start in the Little League Delaware District 2 Majors Division Tournament with a 16-0 victory over New Castle.  Chase Fleming pitched a perfect game, going 3 innings with 5 strike-outs.  New Castle’s best hit of the game was on the first pitch of the game, but Center Fielder Sameer German made a great diving catch.  Already up 7-0 after two innings, Canal put the game out of reach with 9 runs in the third, powered by Joseph Hammond and Drew Brady home runs.  Other offensive standouts included Miguel Herb (2 for 2, triple, 3 RBIs, 3 runs), John Klepacki (2 for 3, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), J.T. Wingo (2 for 2, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs).

Game 2:  Brandywine 7, Canal 5
In a battle of two District 2 heavy weights, Canal was defeated by Brandywine 7-5.  Canal scraped together a run in the first, and then went up 4-0 in the top of the third, capped off by a John Klepacki 2-run homer.  Brandywine took advantage of several unusual Canal miscues in the bottom of the third to take a 5-4 lead, followed by two more in the fourth to go up 7-4.  Further damage was limited by an inning ending diving catch in left field by Jackson Luszcz.  A Joseph Hammond sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth tightened the game to 7-5.  Pitcher Miguel Herb was able to battle through two hit batters and a 1.5 hour rain/lighting delay in the bottom of the fifth to keep the game within two.  However, Brandywine’s strong off-speed pitching kept Canal scoreless in the sixth.  In addition to Herb, Chase Fleming and Drew Brady pitched well for Canal in the loss.  Klepacki, Reynaldo Carrier, and Cameron Coco had multi-hit games for Canal.

Game 3:  Canal 15, Wilmington 1
Canal bounced back with a decisive 15-1 win over Wilmington Little League Thursday evening.  Cam Coco pitched a great game for Canal, getting the win over 4 innings, letting up only 1 run with 9 strikeouts.  Canal started off the top of the first with a fast start, with their first three batters – Sameer German, Chase Fleming, and Miguel Herb scoring.  Wilmington played tough early keeping the game close into the third.  Canal opened up their lead in the third, keyed by RBI singles from Cam Coco, J.T. Wingo, Anthony Rivera, and Jack Luszcz.  Then Canal put the game out of reach with 6 runs in the fifth, capped off by back-to-back homers by Joseph Hammond and Cam Coco.  Drew Brady closed the game out by pitching his way out of a bases loaded, no out situation, giving up no runs.

Game 4:  Canal 7, Naamans 0
Canal defeated a very tough Naamans team 7-0 Monday evening.  Miguel Herb and Chase Fleming combined for the two-hit shut-out.  Herb started the game and pitched 3 and 2/3 innings, giving up one hit with 8 strikeouts.  Fleming finished off the final 2 and 1/3 innings, also giving up one hit and striking out 3.  Canal’s defense worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth, two runners on in the fifth, and ended the game with a 6U-3 double play.  Offensively, Canal opened the top of the first with 3 runs topped off by a Nick Farraj RBI single.  Solo homers by Drew Brady and Miguel Herb increased the lead to 5-0 by the end of the fifth, and John Klepacki added a 2-RBI single in the sixth to add some more insurance.

Game 5:  Canal 13, Capitol-Stanton-Newport, 3

Canal improved to 4-1 in District 2 play with a solid 13-3 victory over the combined Capitol and Stanton-Newport Little League all-star team.  Canal’s offense again started hot, with 5 runs in the first on a walk and 5 singles.  Up 5-1 in the bottom of the third, Canal broke it open with 5 more, keyed by Cameron Coco’s 2-run homer to left-center.  While CSNLL continued to battle by putting up 2 runs in the fifth, Chase Fleming ended it with a 2-run walk off homer in the bottom of the inning.  Nick Farraj and J.T. Wingo got on base in each of their at bats.  Miguel Herb got the start on the mound for Canal and gave up 1 run over 3 and two thirds innings with 2 walks and 9 K’s.  Drew Brady’s solid pitching wrapped the game up for Canal, going one and one third inning, giving up 2 runs with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Canal advances to the final game of the elimination bracket on Sunday.

Game 6:  Newark National 4, Canal 3
Canal’s run in the District 2 tournament ended Sunday on a sixth inning walk-off single by Newark National to break a 3-3 tie.  National jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, aided by a “slash bunt” which is surprisingly not illegal in Little League.  Chase Fleming and Cameron Coco pitched well for Canal, holding National scoreless through the middle innings.  Coco hit a solo homer in the second to get Canal on the board, and Joseph Hammond hit a 2-run homer in the fifth to tie the game.  JT Wingo hit a bullet off the fence in the top of the sixth but National’s defense held up, not allowing any runs in the inning.
